What is dandruff? |
| |
Dandruff is an abnormal Physiological condition where scalp cells are produced in abundance and they appear as white powdery scales. The excessive proliferation and desquamation of the scalp cells clinically appear as dandruff.
The prevalence and incidence of dandruff is although not limited to any particular age group, the incidence is seen more in prepubertal age group where the skin is sebum rich. When the scaling is restricted to the scalp level, it is called dandruff and when extended further to the facial or trunk skin, it is referred as sebbhoric dermatitis.
