Studies on normal adults have shown that A - Forte capsule increases the mean level of R.B.C., vital capacity and total protein. It causes significant rise in hemoglobin content, with simultaneous decrease in mean blood urea and serum acid phosphate.
Aforte contains Withania somnifera. The plant's therapeutic properties have been extensively studied and documented. The alcoholic extracts have significant anti-inflammatory properties and it was confirmed on studies adrenalectomized rats. Ethanol extracts have shown anti-spasmodic and along with the alkaloid fraction showed hypotension. Acetone soluble fractions and their sub-fractions ( alkaloids) exhibited muscle relaxant and anti-spasmodic effect besides potentiation of hexobarbital sleeping time.
Anti-stress ( adaptogenic) activity was assessed in experimental models of stress. The drug increased physiological endurance, protected animals from stress-ulcers and CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity . The use of W. somnifera finds extensive references in texts of Ayurveda and Siddha as a tonic and vitalizer and the clinical use for prevention and treatment of stress during ailments like psoriasis, vitiligo, artereo sclerosis, premature ageing, arthritis, diabetes, hypertension and malignancy. It can also act as an immunomodulator. Its aphrodisac and invigorative properties are also well researched
Aforte also contains Centella asiatica. The plant's therapeutic properties have been extensively studied and documented. Many active compounds have been isolated from the extracts of the plant parts. Asiaticoside- an isolate from the plant, showed anti-tubercular activity and also inhibited the growth of mideprae. Ethanol extracts showed anti-spasmodic activity. Both alcoholic and aqueous extracts of C. asiatica exhibited relaxation of isolated pleur of rat and antagonized BaCl2 induced spasm and reduced spontaneous contraction.
The herb when administered for a period of 12 weeks produced behavioural improvement in mentally retarded children and the consistency of I.Q. the alcoholic extracts produced tranquilizing effect in rats. The drug was tested on 43 normal adults and was found to increase the mean level of RBC blood sugar, serum cholesterol, vital capacity and total proteins. The drug also caused significant improvement of Hemoglobin content with simultaneous decrease in mean blood urea and serum acid phosphate.
