Of the patients put on Tolenorm Oil and Tolenorm Ointment, in 30 % of the cases, pigmentation began before 8 weeks; in 50 % of the cases, extensive pigmentation was seen in 20 weeks; 50 % of the cases showed near total pigmentation in about 30 weeks and maintained the same or improved levels subsequently with no side effects.

A study titled "Efficacy of topical application of TOLENORM oil / ointment in the treatment of Vitiligo" was done under Dr. M. Jayaraman, Professor and Head of Department of Dermatology and Dr. G. Ravichandran, Department of Dermatology, Government Stanley Medical College, Chennai, India.
In the study, clinical trial with Tolenorm oil and Tolenorm ointment was conducted in 50 patients with different types of Vitiligo over a period of one year in the Hospital. 20 patients with focal Vitiligo, 15 with generalized type, 8 patients with segmental, 5 patients with Acral type and 2 with lip Vitiligo were treated with topical application of Tolenorm oil and Tolenorm ointment followed up for about one year for results.
Repigmentation began to appear in 6-8 weeks and near complete repigmentation was observed in segmental and focal Vitiligo in 9-10 months. Generalized Vitiligo showed 50% to 60% repigmentation. While Acral and lip Vitiligo showed insufficient response, only 2 patients showed irritant reaction. The results are being presented in the Annual conference of the IADV&L (Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venerologists and Leprologists) at Bangalore, India in January 2000.

A study is being done at the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, Chennai, India titled "Effectiveness of topical application Tolenorm oil and Tolenorm ointment in the treatment of Vitiligo" by Prof. Dr. S. Gomathy, MD DD; Dr. Jayakumari Jeevan, MD DD and Dr. U.R. Dhanalaxmi, MD DD.
The efficacy of topical application of Tolenorm oil and Tolenorm ointment in the treatment of Vitiligo was studied in the Out Patient ward of Department of Dermatology in the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, Chennai, India. Tolenorm oil and ointment are formulations made by Dr. JRK's Siddha Research and Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd, Chennai, India.
The study has been done on 60 willing Vitiligo patients of different age groups and sex with different kinds of Vitiligo like focal, generalized, segmental, lip and tip and Acral type.
The study was done in two batches. The first batch of 37 patients have been through a study period of 15 months or 64 weeks and the second batch of 23 patients have been through a period of 12 weeks. The study was commenced in the month of May 98 for the 1st batch and in September 99 for the 2nd batch. The clinical study would continue for a further period and final observations and conclusions would be presented in detail. An interim report is now made on the basis of observations till date.
The clinical evaluation protocol included observations on the extent of repigmentation, side effects if any and recording of the same at regular intervals in a systematic form. The patients have been advised application of TOLENORM as prescribed and report progress regularly.
