Treatment of Vitiligo is a major problem as its genesis is multifaceted. Recovery of pigments (melanocyte proliferation and melanin induction) and ultimately immunomodulation are essential for the complete cure of Vitiligo.

Topical application of TOLENORM (Extracts of Psoralia corylifolia, Wrightia tinctoria and indigofera tinctoria) has been found to be an effective preparation in the treatment of Vitiligo and well accepted amongst practicing Dermatologists. Caratol –E has been recommended for concurrent therapy with Topical Tolenorm.

Now, the results of a study conducted and published has conclusively proved that the combination therapy of Tolenorm and Caratol-E improves melanocyte proliferation and has an immunomodulatory performance… both being essential factors for repigmentation amongst Vitiligo patients.

The study revealed that nearly 90% of the patients commenced re-pigmentation within 12 weeks in treatment with Tolenorm alone. In combination with Caratol E, the commencement of re-pigmentation process was faster (10 weeks) and with a higher % of re-pigmentation (25% compared to 15%). Overall, at the end of 50 weeks, the % regimentations in combination treatment were 82.5% as against 55% with Tolenorm alone.

The results of treatment with Tolenorm alone are by themselves very good. It only gets better and faster in combination with Caratol E.

Indications
Vitiligo, hypopigmentary disorders.

Administration/ Dosage

Adults: one capsule in the morning and two capsule at night, daily before food with milk Children : One capsule once a day with milk before food. Intake not recommended for children below 2 years.or as advised by the physician

Exposure to sunlight for about 5 minutes, one or two-hours after intake of the capsule is recommended. Concorent application of tolenorm oil or ointment (product from Dr.jrks Siddha research) is advised.noticeable results can seen after 6 to 12 weeks of treatment. Intake of BEKAYcapsules and S.I.V.A herbal drops (product from Dr.jrk’s Siddha research) with caratol-E capsules and topical tolenorm helps in rapid melanin formation.

Contra-indications :Pregnancy, lactation.

In cases where sensitivity is noticed, severe erythema, itching etc.occur, the treatment can be suspended till the sensitive reaction disappears. During such times, intake could then be restricted to alternate days.Regular dosage may be resumed on normalcy. Tolenorm oil or Tolenorm ointment may also be restricted to alternate days and pure coconut oil and applied till reaction subsides. Adequate clothing to avoid exposure to sunlight is recommended as Caratol E contains photosensitive ingredients. Medical advice may be sought if warranted.

Diet and other recommendations
Sour tasting food, allergens like tomato, brinjals and certain varieties of fish that are prone to cause allergy to be avoided. There are however, reports and studies observed by IADV&L that sour foods or citrus fruits have nothing to do with Vitiligo. Food with high nutrition value should be taken and situations of physical and emotional trauma should be avoided.
